ABOUT

Hootso is a public arts initiative led by poet Jake Skeets. The name hootso, the Diné word for meadow, refers to an open field and shared ground where people gather, pass through, work, and rest. Rooted in community and contemporary artistic practice, Hootso supports poetry and artistic practice as public, relational acts. The initiative supports projects that move across forms and spaces, including readings, workshops, exhibitions, and other events. Hootso is intentionally non-institutional. Its work centers Diné and Indigenous perspectives while engaging the broader landscape of contemporary art, creating space for learning, exchange, and future-making through art and language.
